Herpetofauna Foundation

At Kiezebrink, we are committed to supporting organizations that actively contribute to animal welfare and conservation. That is why we proudly sponsor the Herpetofauna Foundation – a foundation that works worldwide to protect reptiles, amphibians, and their natural environments.

Who is the Herpetofauna Foundation?

The Herpetofauna Foundation focuses on improving the lives of reptiles, amphibians, and related species, both in the wild and in captivity. The organization supports projects that promote the welfare of these animals and works to protect endangered species.

The foundation collaborates internationally with scientists, conservation biologists, zoos, NGOs, and governments to combine expertise and enable effective protection. Since 2008, the foundation has been active in various countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Ecuador, Kenya, and many other regions where reptiles and amphibians are under pressure.

What does the Herpetofauna Foundation do?

The activities of the Herpetofauna Foundation fall under four key pillars:

 1. Conservation (protection of species and habitats)

The foundation works worldwide to preserve vulnerable species and their habitats. Many reptiles and amphibians are severely threatened by habitat loss, climate change, pollution, and wildlife trade. The foundation supports projects through funding, materials, and logistics, and helps protect areas such as the Bahian rainforest in Brazil. They also supported the release of over 2,000 sea turtles and the planting of mangrove forests in Kenya.

 2. Research

The foundation supports research on reptiles and amphibians, with particular attention to toxins. Such research contributes to conservation as well as medical advancements, including improved treatments for snakebites and the development of new medicines.

 3. Education

Education is crucial, as reptiles and amphibians are often misunderstood animals. The foundation aims to break misconceptions by offering educational programs in schools, at events, and to governments and individuals. This increases knowledge, understanding, and respect for these animals.

 4. Connection

The foundation brings together experts, zoos, scientists, hobbyists, NGOs, and governments. Through this connecting role, knowledge is shared and better policy decisions can be made to protect reptiles and amphibians. The Netherlands is also an ideal location for conferences and symposiums that contribute to groundbreaking research.
