Save the Rhino
At Kiezebrink, we believe that sustainability and social responsibility go hand in hand. That’s why we support impactful conservation initiatives, including our partnership with Save the Rhino International. Since 2021 we contribute to their project in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park (HiP), South Africa — a region known for its critical populations of black and white rhinos. This multi-year project focuses on protecting these endangered animals through improved monitoring, anti-poaching strategies, and long-term conservation planning.
Project Goals
- Strengthen the detection of poaching activity and improve response times
- Monitor individual rhinos to better understand population dynamics and health
- Evaluate and manage the project’s progress to ensure long-term success
Achievements in 2025
Thanks to the combined efforts of Save the Rhino International, Wildlife ACT, and supporting partners like Kiezebrink, the project has already delivered impressive results:
- Fewer poaching attempts than in previous years thanks to a combination of conservation measures.
- Continued dehorning of rhinos, an important measure to reduce the risk of poaching.
- Launch of Project FIRE: HiP, which evaluates the effectiveness of anti-poaching interventions.
- Strengthening of the ranger team through new recruitment, training, and specialist development programmes.
- Use of advanced monitoring techniques, including tracking devices and aerial surveillance.
- A decline in the number of illegally killed rhinos in South Africa compared to the previous two years.
- Protection of a wider ecosystem, benefiting not only rhinos but many other wildlife species as well.
Kiezebrink’s Contribution
Our donation supports key elements of the project, including:
- Deployment and maintenance of camera traps
- Vehicles and fuel for field operations
- Salaries for monitoring staff
- Tracking equipment for research and data collection
